monkey python ponyslap

to glark is not to dig, to dig is not to zen, and grokking is completely out of the question.

anyway, then i dreamed that heinlein was invited to lunch by stallman after selling a pint of beer to torvalds. after heinlein had reassured himself that stallman did pay for the lunch, i asked him if a human being shouldn't also be able to have a baby and everyone giggled.

to underestimate

they already saw how millions of people will form a network and pool their storage space and processor time in an effort to pass around their precious data freely. and they don't think people would do the same to crack their pathetic digital rights restriction?

violent snowballing

i was so tired that even speaking was hard work. for every word i pondered wheter it was worth being said and ended up not knowing what to say at all. i was rolling innumerable thoughts through my grey matter like children roll snowballs through a snow covered meadow in order to shape the big spheres they need for building snowmen. but my thoughts didn't find any associativities to stick together with and none became significant enough to be couched in terms. she suggested we could build ourselves little snow castles to hide behind and throw our little snowballs at each other. of course both of us were too tired for a serious discussion, so we just insisted on our viewpoints, ridiculed each other's opinions and went to bed.

gillion

okay, so we should end the confusion between the chuquet and the pelletier system by using tetrillion, pentillion, hexillion, heptillion, octillion, nonillion (ennillion?), decillion, hendecillion (undecillion?), dodecillion, tridecillion (triskaidecillion?), tetradecillion (tetrakaidecillion?), pendecillion, hexadecillion, heptadecillion, octodecillion, enneadecillion, ..., hecatocillion, ..., chilillion. and we would wisely refer to 109 as gillion, in order to avoid the trillion which has already caused enough confusion. but how should we call 103 and 106 then? monillion and dillion/dyillion? certainly not, people could confuse the monillion with the million. at the other hand, using million instead of dillion is also quite confusing, isn't it?

800 delay

when all the senior programmers at atari were busy creating the 800 OS, they hired a coder called bill to modify a BASIC compiler he had for another system to be used on the 800. but instead of doing any work, bill spent all his time on a silly little disk utiliy called DOS, which he made for some big company. after the atari project stalled for over a year, they fired bill.
